I have been using my pedal assist bike on trails for some now I have heard that the COTA organization has forced the Forest Service to prohibit me from using my bike in the trails. I am a 74 year old Vietnam veteran with congestive heart failure and am unable to peddle a non-assisted bike. Maybe you could make exceptions for handicaped and disabled riders. Mabe a disabled sticker. HI Dwayne, thanks for reaching out. As it turns out, we (COTA) does not have the authority to force the Forest Service to do anything, as we are simply a non-profit organization that has volunteer agreements with the FS to build and maintain trails. We are *required* to follow all FS rules, and currently the FS rules state that all e-bikes are considered motorized and thus are not allowed on single track mountain bike trails. COTA certainly understands the limitations you are under in riding your e-bike on forest lands, and your idea of a disabled sticker/exemption is a good one. You are welcome to reach out to the USFS to express your interest and support for e-bike exceptions. All the best to you! -Kelly Comments are closed.
