COTA is a Nationally Recognized Sawyer Training Program, authorized by the US Forest Service. We are here to offer initial chainsaw and crosscut certifications as well as recertifications in Central Oregon.

Requirements for a Sawyer
- Current certification in Basic First Aid/CPR (tested within the last 2 years). Must be OSHA approved with in person evaluation portion.
- Functioning chainsaw (gas or electric) with all five required safety features (chain break, chain catch, throttle interlock, anti-vibration system and spark arrestor).
- Always use required PPE when cutting.
- Must work with a swamper at all times (no working alone).
- Must have land manager or the corresponding trail organization's permission in order to clear a trail.
- If an A sawyer you must work under the supervision of a B certified sawyer (or higher).

Training Dates:
- Initial Chainsaw Training: May 3rd and 4th, 2025
