The Central Oregon Trail Alliance
Our mission is to develop, protect, and enhance the Central Oregon mountain bike experience through trail stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, and education.
COTA is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer organization that works in conjunction with the USFS, BLM and other land managers to build and maintain trails throughout Central Oregon. We steward over 520 miles of singletrack trails, 5 bike parks, and 9 miles of groomed winter fat bike trails. With the help of our incredible volunteers—who logged over 20,000 hours last year—and a small but mighty team of 3 full-time salaried staff and 3 part-time staff, we’re working to put all Central Oregonians within 20 minutes of trail access.
We’ve got a lot of ground to cover.
COTA stewards a vast region of Central Oregon—spanning roughly 100 miles north to south and 100 miles east to west—encompassing a diverse range of terrain, communities, and riding experiences. Our trail system is supported by local chapters, each led by a dedicated volunteer Chapter Representative and represented by a liaison on our Board of Directors. Getting involved with your local chapter is one of the best ways to connect with the COTA community. Monthly chapter meetings provide updates on trail projects, upcoming events, and opportunities to lend a hand or share your voice. Many chapters also organize group rides, work days, and other gatherings to build community both on and off the trail. Whether you're new to the area or a longtime local, there's a place for you here.

COTA stewards 520 miles of singletrack trails, 5 bike parks and 9 miles of winter fat bike trails across Central Oregon—and we’re not slowing down. There are currently over 100 miles in the planning phases. It can cost up to $70,000 to build a mile of trail and up to $5,000 a year to maintain it, so in adition to trails, we’re also building a sustainable funding pipeline. As a 501(c)(3), COTA is 100% privately funded through grants, corporate sponsors, membership dues and individual donors. We don’t receive state or federal funding outside of competitive grants, which means every member and donor plays a direct role in keeping our trails alive. Your support helps us dig more dirt, host more events, and strengthen the mountain bike community for generations to come.
Want to get your hands dirty? Join us for a trail work event—no experience needed, just a willingness to help.

We know these trails because we ride them, build them, and care for them. Whether you’re looking for a mellow cruise, a technical challenge, or the perfect ride with friends, we’ve got recommendations to help you find your flow. Explore our ride guides and featured routes, and discover your new favorite loop. However you roll, we can’t wait to share the trails with you.

Respect is at the core of what we do—from riding responsibly to advocating for long-term access to the outdoors. We work closely with land managers to champion sustainable trail development and ensure mountain biking continues to have a seat at the table. If you ride, here’s how to give back: become a COTA member. Membership helps fund the trails you enjoy and supports the advocacy, maintenance, and community efforts behind them. Trail-based recreation doesn’t happen on its own—it takes time, money, and people who care. In return, trails give us a lot: better health, stronger communities, deeper connections with friends and nature, and thriving local economies.
