Our mission is to develop, protect, and enhance the Central Oregon mountain bike experience through trail stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, and education.

COTA is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer organization that works in conjunction with the USFS, BLM and other land managers to build and maintain trails throughout Central Oregon. We steward nearly 600 miles of singletrack trails, 5 bike parks, and 14 miles of groomed winter fat bike trails. With the help of our incredible volunteers—who logged over 20,000 hours last year—and a small but mighty team of 5 paid staff members, we’re working to put all Central Oregonians within 20 minutes of trail access.

Upcoming Events

COTA stewards nearly 600 miles of singletrack across Central Oregon, including approximately 320 miles within the Deschutes National Forest. As of December 2025, the U.S. Forest Service has updated its travel management policies to allow Class 1 pedal-assist E-bikes on 161 miles of those trails. This decision follows years of research, environmental analysis, and public input.

While COTA doesn’t create or enforce rules on public lands, we do our best to keep the mountain bike community informed and educated about issues that impact trail-based recreation across Central Oregon. Check out our E-bike page for more information on E-bikes in the COTA trail network.

We’ve got a lot of ground to cover.

COTA stewards a vast region of Central Oregon—spanning roughly 100 miles north to south and 100 miles east to west—encompassing a diverse range of terrain, communities, and riding experiences. Our trail system is supported by local chapters, each led by a dedicated volunteer Chapter Representative and represented by a liaison on our Board of Directors. Getting involved with your local chapter is one of the best ways to connect with the COTA community. Monthly chapter meetings provide updates on trail projects, upcoming events, and opportunities to lend a hand or share your voice. Many chapters also organize group rides, work days, and other gatherings to build community both on and off the trail. Whether you're new to the area or a longtime local, there's a place for you here.
