Bend Chapter

Where it all began, and keeps on going...

COTA’s goal is to maintain political presence, develop approved trails, and ensure the future of mountain biking in Central Oregon. To execute this, the
Bend Chapter acts as the main liaison with public land managers from the USFS, BLM, the City of Bend and our neighboring COTA chapters in Redmond, Sisters and Crook County/Prineville.

The Bend Chapter:

• Quarterbacks Trail Development: It’s much more complicated - and time consuming - than most of us understand. It typically takes several YEARS of active engagement with public land managers to propose new trails, get them through mandatory approval processes (think everything from soil stability to wildlife migration paths), to the actual design and flagging of the physical trails themselves. Only then can we finally assemble our volunteers to get out and build them!

• Promotes trail stewardship by creating a community of mountain bike enthusiasts dedicated to taking care of the trails everyone enjoys.

• Raises funds through donations, memberships and fundraisers for trail building and maintenance equipment, trail signage and so forth for all the chapters - in essence all sanctioned trails in Central Oregon.

Chapter Meetings:

Bend Chapter meetings are generally held on the 3rd Tuesday of odd numbered months, 6:00pm start. Check our calendar or Meetup to determine location.

Work Events:

The work event schedule will be posted on the COTA Calendar. Sign up on COTA's Meetup page to get email notifications of trail work events, movie nights & more here.

All COTA trail work events require the following safety measures. All participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment:
  • Sturdy shoes or boots
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection with clear or light colored lens
  • Long pants
Due to COTA’s insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work, we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events:
  • For anyone 14 years of age or younger, we require one parent, guardian, or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.
  • All minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian available to sign our waiver.
Anyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if he/she cannot meet the above requirements.
