Crosscut Course PPE and Requirements
Required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Hardhat (4 or 6 point, cannot be metal or carbon fiber) - ANSI Z89.1-2014 approved
Safety glasses - Z87.1 approved. If you normally wear eyeglasses, you need to have Z87.1 rated over-the-glasses style goggles, or prescription safety glasses.
Standard eyeglasses are not sufficient on their own
An ANSI-approved mesh face shield can be worn over standard eyeglasses or instead of safety glasses for cutting.
Gloves - grippier gloves for when it's wet out, cut-resistant gloves when handling or sharpening saw
Long pants & long-sleeve shirt
Boots - lace-up with good ankle support and tread. Cut resistant (leather), not mesh. You do NOT need safety toes.
First Aid kit (tourniquet is recommended)
Requirements for class
Must have a current OSHA-approved First Aid/CPR certification
Must be at least 16 years old (FSM 2358.03).
Certifications
Most students will receive an A certification (entry level).
Those demonstrating strong skills and safe working knowledge may qualify for a B certification (intermediate).
Certifications are valid for 3 years. Note that First aid certifications are only good for 2 years!
